    Freight forwarding and logistics services clerks (Kaufmann/-frau für Spedition und Logistikdienstleistungen):

    • plan and organize transport, transshipment, storage and other logistics services in compliance with relevant legal regulations
    • manage and monitor the interaction of the people and facilities involved in logistics chains
    • make use of opportunities to consolidate shipments into larger load units
    • correspond and communicate transport-related documents with business partners and customers
    • identify customer requirements, advise and support customers
    • identify and evaluate service offerings on the transport and logistics market
    • handle customer complaints and process payments as well as dunning procedures

Training as a professional truck driver (Berufskraftfahrer) takes place in the dual system. This means that, alongside on-the-job training, apprentices attend vocational school. There, they learn the theoretical knowledge in subjects such as company organization, vehicle technology, loading of goods, route planning and other areas.

    Field of work

    Professional truck drivers (Berufskraftfahrer) work in companies in road freight transport, logistics, waste disposal, tourism or public passenger transport.

    Job description

    Professional truck drivers (Berufskraftfahrer):

    • carry out goods transport journeys safely, taking economic and environmental aspects into account
    • check, service and maintain the vehicles
    • apply national and international legal and social regulations for road traffic
    • prepare the vehicles for transporting goods, accept the goods, secure the load and check the required paperwork
    • take measures to resolve vehicle faults
    • act appropriately in accidents and incidents, in particular securing accident and hazard sites and providing first aid
    • obtain information, evaluate it, coordinate schedules and organize journeys with economic aspects in mind

    Recommended school qualification

    Lower secondary school certificate (Hauptschulabschluss), qualified Hauptschulabschluss or Mittlere Reife
